Stills & Clips Desk
Created by Matt Palmer
Extract product stills and short clips from recordings, or clean up documentation screenshots.
Our developer take
Preparing product demo assets
Record one working feature and identify the moments that explain it clearly. Ask for a documentation screenshot and a short launch clip with suitable dimensions, then check the output against the real product before publishing.
A practical first workflow
How to use Stills & Clips Desk
Extract a documentation still and a short clip from your own product recording.
An AI IDE List walkthrough based on the linked template. These are suggested tasks and review criteria, not results from a hands-on test.
First, add this Bot
Open the official Stills & Clips Desk template, choose Import Bot, and finish adding it in the Grok Bot app. Open its conversation, then follow the workflow below. If you have not set up the app, follow our installation and connection guide.
What to prepare
- An uploaded product recording or screenshot the Bot can access.
- The exact still timestamp and start/end time of the clip you want.
- Output dimensions, file format, and the destination for each asset.
Upload and identify the moments
Supply the recording and select the timestamps yourself. For a screenshot task, describe the crop or cleanup needed.
Set export requirements
Specify the still dimensions, clip aspect ratio, file formats, and whether you want captions or alt text.
Request the asset exports
Ask for the selected still and clip as separate outputs with descriptive filenames. Keep the original recording available for comparison.
Inspect the result
Open the exports and check crop, text legibility, timing, and captions against the product. Request a specific adjustment before publishing.
First-run example
Replace every [BRACKETED_VALUE] with your details, attach the required files, then send this in the Bot's conversation.
Use the uploaded [RECORDING_FILENAME]. Extract a still at [STILL_TIMESTAMP] and a clip from [START_TIME] to [END_TIME]. Export the still as [STILL_FORMAT] at [STILL_DIMENSIONS] for documentation, and the clip as [VIDEO_FORMAT] at [CLIP_DIMENSIONS] for [DESTINATION]. Keep essential UI text visible. Suggest a short caption and alt text for the still. Return separate, clearly named files and report any export limitation. Preserve the original recording.
What you should get
Use this checklist to review the first result and request anything missing.
- Separate still and clip files for the selected timestamps.
- Exports matching the requested dimensions and formats, or stated limitations.
- A caption and alt-text suggestion you can check against the product.
For the next run
Send the next recording with exact timestamps and reuse the approved export sizes. A weekly asset queue is optional.
If the first run gets stuck
If the wrong moment is extracted, confirm the uploaded file and its timecodes. This template expects you to select moments; it does not choose highlights or create new footage.
